In 1996 Porsche refreshed the 993 model line up with the inclusion of their new "VarioRam" Technology which lifted the engine to 285 bhp while reducing emissions. They also added new models to the range, including both the Turbo and a Targa.
Porsche had introduced the Targa concept in 1965, after there was a suggestion that they would ban pure open top cars in the US. The idea was to enjoy the open roof, with the safety of a Coupe. But having to physically stop and remove a roof panel, lost some appeal over the years and Porsche stopped production in 1993.
The Targa ( named after the Targa Florio and was a Trademark of Porsche A.G. ) was brought back by popular demand, with electric sliding glass panel and electric sun blind, making open air driving on the move accessible.

This particular car was sold new by Jebsens the main dealer in Hong Kong at the time and would have been 1 of very few Targas sold that year. To put it in context there were only 25 993 Targas sold here in Australia over their total model life.
We have confirmed with Porsche Cars Australia the car is still in its original delivery spec of arctic silver with black interior. It has been with the same owner for approx the last 15 years. The body kit and interior items were supplied and installed by the Gemballa HK franchise and they give the car a very unique appearance.

The car drives beautifully. A proper 3.6 Air-cooled engine with all of the 1996 improvements that Porsche added, mated to the ultra-reliable Tiptronic S gearbox.
